The Mighty Masquerade was held in June 2023 – shortly after what should have been Silas’ 21st birthday – a big date for us as a family to get our heads around. It has been nine long years since we last saw his cheeky grin and heard his contagious laugh and were enveloped in one of his trade-mark bearhugs. It remains simply unbearable that he is not here to live the rest of his life and all we can do is somehow try and stop other families from feeling our pain and work to change the dreadful outcomes for children with brain tumours – which unfortunately remain the No.1 cancer killer of children and young people under 40.
Silas loved to party so it seemed right to mark this big moment and raise more money for The Brain Tumour Charity at the same time and continue to give his life a long lasting legacy. The weather turned the night before and 300 people used their imagination to dress up for our masquerade ball and came and danced the night away at the lovely Lynsted Park . We raised an incredible £125,000 – far more than we had anticipated.
Here are some of our favourite pictures of the night.

There are so many people to thank. Our fantastic committee – Pam Beaugie, Amanda Allfrey, Lucy Taylor-Smith, Katie Tribe, Alex Fontanelli – Neil & Vanessa Ross-Russell for once again allowing us to use their wonderful venue – Sarah Hall Catering for her fantastic food – Jam Sandwich for their brilliant playing as always and for knowing all the songs that Silas would want to dance to – Chris Stephenson for outstanding auctioneering – Thoma Wyatt and her brilliantly efficient waiting team – Mads & Tim Sheppley – Moray Neame – Best In Tents and our entertainers and DJ. A MIGHTY thank you to you all.
